The country of India possesses a strategic place in the continent of Asia. The capital of India is New Delhi. This particular country in Asia occupies an area of 3, 387,263 square kilometers. India is situated to the northern part of the equator . It is surrounded by the Arabian sea on the south-western part, and Bay of Bengal on its north-eastern side. The Himalayan ranges exist in the northern, north-eastern and north -western part of India. The southern part of India is bounded by the Indian Ocean.

The country of India is regarded as a federal republic. This particular country constitutes a twenty eight states. Apart from the states of India, , there are a total number of seven Union territories in the country of India. The states in India are Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujrat, Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Punjab, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, and others.
The seven Union territories include National Capital territory of Delhi, Chandigarh, Lakshadeep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman and Diu, Puducherry . As far as the the watersheds are concerned, three watersheds have their existence in the country of India. They are Hamalaya and its karakoram branch, in the northern side, Vindhyan range and Satpura range that exist in the central part of India, and Sahyadri on the western coast. Some of the major rivers of India are the Ganga, the the bramhaputra , and the Indus.
